Report on the Maternal and Child Health Project at Ugborikoko Primary Health Centre
As part of Rotary's commitment to improving maternal and child healthcare, the Rotary Club of Bendel Estate proudly participated in a collaborative Maternal and Child Health Project held at the Ugborikoko Primary Health Centre.
The project was executed in partnership with the Rotary Club of Effurun and the Rotary Club of Effurun City Centre, demonstrating the strength of collaboration in achieving sustainable community impact. Through our collective efforts, we were able to support expectant mothers and newborns by providing essential maternal care items and promoting healthier childbirth practices.
The Rotary Club of Bendel Estate actively participated in the planning, coordination, and successful execution of the outreach. Our members joined fellow Rotarians in engaging with healthcare professionals and beneficiaries, ensuring that the intervention addressed practical needs within the community.
During the project, maternity care packs containing carefully selected essential items were distributed to pregnant women attending the Primary Health Centre. These packs included delivery mats, maternity pads, baby care items, diapers, antiseptics, cotton wool, cord clamps, baby toiletries, and other materials necessary to support safe delivery and proper newborn care.
Beyond the distribution of supplies, beneficiaries received valuable health education from medical personnel on antenatal care, safe delivery practices, maternal nutrition, newborn hygiene, immunization, and the importance of regular postnatal care. The health talks encouraged mothers to make informed decisions that would improve both maternal and child health outcomes.
The appreciation expressed by the beneficiaries and healthcare workers reaffirmed the importance of Rotary's humanitarian service. The project not only eased the burden on many expectant mothers but also strengthened the relationship between Rotary and the local healthcare system.
This initiative reflects Rotary's unwavering commitment to Disease Prevention and Treatment as well as Maternal and Child Health, one of Rotary's seven Areas of Focus. It also demonstrates the power of partnership, service, and community engagement in creating meaningful and lasting change.
